Sophomore Year Reflections

Two down, two to go. Wow! I cannot believe that I am already done with my second year of college. It is crazy to think that I am now a junior; an upperclassman!!! With that being said, looking back on sophomore year I have a few insights that I would like to share.
First off, do not be afraid to try new things. Even as a sophomore I still met so many people and learned so much. College is all about finding yourself and exploring what life has to offer. This year, I joined the Marketing and Management club where I have learned a lot of useful advice ranging from everyday life tips to tips in the world of business.
Network, network, network! No matter where you are, you are always networking yourself. I found it extremely valuable to attend some networking events that my school hosted this year. While I was slightly skeptical of how beneficial they would be for me, it paid off. One of the events that I attended was networking for jobs that I was not particularly interested in. However, while I was there I was introduced to a woman who had contacts in the field of work that I aspire to get into; baseball. You never truly know who you will meet in any situation. Even though I was at a primarily marketing and accounting networking luncheon, I still was able to find contacts in the sporting world.
Another tip that I found helpful is to study in more than one place. Generally, I like to study in my room because if I go to the library it tends to turn into social hour. Your room may seem like a great place to study, and sometimes it is, however it can be distracting. At times there are things in your room that you are interested in and you can get off track. The library is the most logical place for students to study as there is tons of space, but sometimes it can get too crowded or even boring. A coffee shop is a good alternative location as the environment is generally relaxing and friendly and you can get a snack while doing your work. Weather permitting, one of my favorite spots to study is outside. Whether it is at a table, on a bench, or a blanket on the grass, studying outside is always successful for me. Studying while getting fresh air and maybe even some sun can be calming and I usually get a lot done.
Finally, keep making memories and have no regrets! Trust me, time flies in college and it keeps getting faster. I was in shock when I realized that I am already halfway through college. With that being said, it is important to make incredible memories that you will cherish forever. Nobody wants to look back on college and wish that they had done something differently or have regrets. Sometimes, this means trying new things or going out of your comfort zone and 99% of the time I promise it is worth it!
I am looking forward to junior year and cannot wait to see what new adventures lie ahead!
