γεια σας! The last 3 days I have been exploring the city of Athens, eating food, shopping, and loving the history in this city. Here are some of my recommendations for when you're in the city:

SITES

1. Changing of the Guards

The parliament building is a must see when you first get to the city. The guards are dressed in short skirts, tights, and shoes with pom poms on them! The changing occurs every hour on the hour and it lasts about 30 minutes. I highly recommend checking it out!

2. Hadrian's Library

We stopped at Hadrian's Library because Saturday had free admission into all

museums. This is an outdoor site with the remainder of Hadrian's Library. The columns are huge and it really puts into perspective how glorious these works of architecture were.

3. Plaka

Plaka is a small village in the city with streets full of vendors, restaurants, live music, & some of the most beautiful apartment buildings I have ever seen! It is fairly crowded with locals as well as tourists. If you're looking to do some shopping, you could get lost in here for hours.

4. Monastiraki Flea Market

If you like knick knacks, go to the flea market! It is right off of the Monastiraki Metro Station and there is plenty to look at.

5. The Acropolis

Of course, the Parthenon is a must see when you're in Athens. The Acropolis Museum is located at the bottom of the hill and is a great way to get all of the facts about the citadel. This was one of the most beautiful sights I have seen, as you can see all the way to the ocean. It is a hike so I recommend bringing water with you!

FOOD

1. Mamacita

If you're craving Mexican, and we were, Mamacita is the place to go. I got the tacos carnitas and it was my best meal in Greece so far. The prices are also pretty decent! Definitely a hidden gem.

2. A is for Athens

This rooftop bar has a killer view. You need to make a reservation, but we only made ours 2 days in advance and there was no issue getting in. The food is smaller in portion size and a lot more expensive, but you're paying for the view. Come around sunset and watch the Acropolis light up during golden hour.

3. DaVinci

If your sweet tooth kicks in, head to DaVinci for some amazing gelato or milkshakes. This place is incredibly popular and looks great on Instagram. It was a packed shop though and the line was more of people shoving their way to the front.
