5 self care tips for college students

College is stressful. Yeah. Most days I am running on at least 2 cups of coffee, scrambling to get work done on time. There's a lot to do in such little time. For me, I have 4 tests next week; that should be illegal. However, there's not much I can do but prepare myself and keep up with my self care. Here are 5 things that you can do to relax and take a step back for a little.

1. Meditate or Pray.

It can really help to either meditate or pray when you wake up and before you go to sleep. The first 5 minutes of your day and your last are guaranteed to be just for you and your thoughts. There are many meditation apps out there to help you if you're a beginner. In just 5 minutes, you can set the tone for the rest of your day.

2. Face Masks. Face Masks. Face Masks.

I will never give up on face masks. Something about them makes me feel so boujee and like I'm at the spa. There are so many types of masks out there to try! Not only face masks, but taking time at night to have a good skin care routine is something that always makes me more relaxed and refreshed.

3. Don't underestimate your "me-time."

This year, I am living on my sorority hall. As much as I have been loving the constant flow of friends and conversation, I am exhausted! I would consider myself someone whose recharge time comes from being alone. I also believe that everyone needs some alone time, extrovert or introvert. This could mean watching an episode of your favorite show in bed, reading a book, or just studying alone. Me-time is important.

4. Eat good food.

In my opinion, eating good means feeling good. I follow my cravings and intuitively eat, which means eating when and what my body needs. Not only does healthy eating make you feel good, it makes you look good. This doesn't mean you have to restrict yourself. If you've had a long week and want a cookie, eat that cookie if it makes you feel good.

5. Don't fret the small things.

Life goes on. It's true. Bad things will happen and there's nothing we can do but keep moving forward. I could list 100 things that go wrong for me each day but I choose to not dwell on them. There is no point to worrying and beating yourself up for something that won't matter in 5 years, much less, 2 weeks. If something goes poorly, give yourself 30 seconds to be upset but don't let it ruin your day. Part of self care is loving yourself, even the part that makes mistakes.

Now go out there and be the boss babe you are! Spring break is right around the corner and we will be able to take a whole week for self care.
