Happy New Years Eve! With the new year coming up, in literally 12 hours from when I'm writing this, I wanted to reflect on my year. 2017 was incredibly eventful for me. I got my first puppy, graduated high school, moved 1756 miles away from home, completed a semester of college, and became a legal adult. The year was filled with many ups, but also many downs. I learned from my mistakes and continued to make more mistakes. Most importantly though, I grew as a person. Leaving home and having to start a new life in a place where I knew no one was a challenge I didn't expect to be so hard. I found myself immersed in a completely different culture than I had been in for the past 18 years, and I only had so much time to adjust.
I was lucky, however, to meet some of the most supportive girls through my sorority who helped me make Auburn feel like home. Slowly but surely, I adjusted to my new life and I LOVE it. College is an experience I am so thankful I get to live. I am learning about so many new topics that excite and challenge me, I get to explore a new town and state, and I get to emerge myself in new clubs and activities. Still, living without your mom reminding you to do your laundry and be home at a certain time is weird. I always find myself about to text her saying where I'm headed before I realize she isn't at college with me. A new set of responsibilities was dropped on my shoulders, forcing me to grow up and learn how to do things on my own. Many lessons learned, I am ready to go into the new year with a new list of goals and resolutions!!
2018 for me is going to be about my mind, body, and spirit. Body is a big one for me, self love is important, and that comes with respecting your body. This means eating better food, exercising in a healthy way, drinking more water, and getting more sleep. Focus on improving my mind with learning, reading, and listening more. Lastly, spirit includes being around those I love, being creative, and reflecting on bad habits. One of my main resolutions is to not let the opinions of others sway my own. Love what you love and never let someone dim your flame. I can't wait to see what's in store for me in the new year, and I can't wait to blog all about it!
