Gelato!

What's a yummy and inexpensive snack to enjoy when you are craving a treat? Gelato!

Gelato is a rich Italian-based ice cream that will satisfy your sweet tooth. While I was in Italy this past summer, I was introduced to my new favorite dessert. Gelato is generally sold in a shop called a Gelateria, however,in Italy you can basically find it anywhere you go.

This treat is much more flavorful and dense than regular ice cream and is lower in fat. While in Italy, I learned that the best gelato is preservative free which means that it tends to have a shorter shelf life. If you ever get the chance to go to the beautiful boot shaped country and try their famous gelato, look closely when picking a Gelateria. Quite often, the gelato with lesser color or a more natural color is the best. For example, if I wanted a banana flavor gelato from a Gelateria, I would be looking for a more dull yellow as appose to a vibrant or bright yellow. This is one way of knowing whether or not the Gelateria you are in uses real and natural products.

Now, don't fret! Just because you may not be taking a trip to beautiful Italia does not mean you can't have a taste of gelato. Next time you go to your local grocery store go to the frozen dessert section and check out if they have gelato. Chances are they most likely will have it! However, if you do find gelato, check the label for "Made in Italy" to guarantee you are getting real Italian gelato.

It's an Italian tradition to have gelato everyday at 3pm, but I recommend it anytime! Fantastico!!🇮🇹
