College holds a whole new realm of expectations. There are no more Remind101 messages from your teachers and your parents are no longer around to bug you to do your work. Hopefully, these tips will lead you in the right direction to succeed!

1. Don't wait to do the reading.
Most professors will expect you to be reading the textbook without assigning it as homework. Do not blow this off! Set aside an hour before the lecture to do the assigned reading and take notes. Not only will you feel more comfortable on the subject during the lecture, but some of that information might pop up on exams!
2. Communicate with your professor.
Most professors will notice your extra effort when you email them and go to office hours. They want to help you and the more time you spend with them, the more you will learn about what they are looking for/how to boost your grade!
3. ALWAYS DO EXTRA CREDIT!!
Take advantage of every extra credit opportunity! You never know what is going to happen and it is always helpful to have a little cushion and/or boost for your grades.
4. Meet people in your classes.
Be outgoing and talk to the other students in your classes. Get their numbers and plan to study together some time! Not only will you make a new friend, but the work will get done quicker and it's another way to get your question answered.
5. Take notes by hand.
It is shown in studies that students who take notes by hand rather than typing them will have a better success rate! Laptops are a distraction and make it easier to get off task. Take notes by hand, and you can always go type them up after class if it helps you stay organized.
6. That being said... stay organized!
Plan out your day, make a schedule and stick to it! Each day, I write out a to-do list and then make an order in which I am going to get each thing done. Sticking to a time schedule will give you more structure and allow you to have better time management.
7. Allow yourself some time to relax.
It isn't healthy to constantly be staring at your computer taking notes or studying. Plan for study breaks, whether it be going to exercise or grabbing food with friends. While you are here to learn and get good grades, you don't want to miss opportunities to make new friendships and memories!
